If you’ve ever wondered whether your brain can quickly process visual information or not, this simple quiz is for you! The rule is very simple: When the red circle turns green, tap/click the left mouse button on the screen as fast as possible!

The average reaction time to visual stimulus is around 250ms (milliseconds) and most people are able to achieve up to 200ms with a bit of training. The fastest documented reaction time to visual stimulus is 120 milliseconds, which is an extremely difficult record to beat. If you believe you’ve got what it takes to do better, feel free to upload a video of you doing this test on Youtube and send us the link. You can retake this test as many times as you want with no impact on your final score!

According to scientific research, healthy participants' first response of the visual cortex is around 50–70 ms. This would seem to indicate that this is the amount of time it takes for the transduced visual stimulus to reach the cortex after light first enters the eye.
Update: If you want to apply for a record, please make sure to take a video of you taking the test (with a camera filming you and your fingers). During the challenge, please do NOT do any GUESS. And the maximum reaction time in your 5 attempts would be your record - Yes, the WORST number in your five attempts would decide your record score. World record attempts can be submitted for either the 10-attempts mode or the 100-attempts mode. Please follow these rules for your video submission:

Show Everything: Your video must clearly and continuously show both your hands and the computer screen at the same time. This is mandatory for verification.
No Edits: Submit the original, unedited video file. Any editing will disqualify the attempt.
10-Attempts Mode - No Guessing: For the 10-attempts mode specifically, attempts must be legitimate reactions. Videos showing "pre-firing" or guessing before the signal will not be accepted for this mode record.
Submission: Email your video to admin@arealme.com. Include your name/nickname and score.

Fun Facts

Many researchers have confirmed that reaction to sound is faster than reaction to light, with mean auditory reaction times being 140-160 ms and visual reaction times being 180-200 ms (References).

In the men’s 100m final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the BBC did an excellent job analyzing the reaction times of the eight athletes to the starting gun. The fastest reaction time was 108ms, achieved by Kerley from the US. However, Kerley only ranked #3 for the bronze medal while Lyles whose reaction time was 178ms, ranked #1 for the gold medal.
